Leyte Park Resort Hotel – DSWD MOA for Makamasang Tugon

TACLOBAN CITY, Leyte, Aug 3 (PIA) -– Nine Eastern Visayas municipalities represented by their local chief executives, confirmed their commitment to support the Makamasang Tugon modality of the KALAHI-CIDSS during the signing of the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) held on July 22, at the Balay Inasal, Leyte Park Resort Hotel Compound.

Assistant Regional Director Jaime Eclavea of the DSWD Field Office 8 identified the municipalities as Bato, Javier, Kananga, Leyte, and Tabango of the Province of Leyte; Paranas and Tarangnan of the Province of Samar; Sulat, Eastern Samar and Cabucgayan, Biliran.

These towns, all veterans of KALAHI-CIDSS implementation are ready and raring to take the lead role in the community-driven development poverty reduction initiative.

The Makamasang Tugon modality is an incentive extended to municipalities that recorded satisfactory implementation of the KALAHI-CIDSS Project.

According to Assistant Regional Director Jaime Eclavea, the Millennium Challenge Corporation, an independent funding agency of the United States, will finance the year-long Makamasang Tugon in said these municipalities.

Eclavea also disclosed that seven other municipalities that will be implementing Makamasang Tugon this year. These are Julita, La Paz, Mahaplag, Mayorga, San Isidro, Tabon-tabon, and Tabango, all in the Province of Leyte, ARD Eclavea revealed.

Present during the signing of the agreements were Board Member Atty. Roque Tiu who represented Leyte Governor Jericho Petilla. Other guests included officers of the participating municipalities.

All the nine mayors and the Leyte Provincial Government thru Board Member Tiu expressed their commitment to support the project and thanked the DSWD for the opportunity.

Makamasang Tugon is a program in which the municipalities are the direct implementors of the projects thus, the LGUs are expected to harmonize their local investment planning with community driven development thrusts. The LGUs are also expected to mainstream the principles of participation, transparency, and accountability in local governance. (PIA 8 )
